Nappa leather seats with four-way lumbar support are an option ($5500). A Premium Package ($3500) features a 12-speaker, 465-watt Bang & Olufsen stereo with six-disc CD changer. Navigation is optional ($2000).
Safety features include dual-stage front airbags with passenger sensor, side door chest airbags, side door knee airbags, electronic stability control, tire pressure monitor, and cool looking LED taillights as well as daytime running lights, because you might be coming up on traffic kind of fast and the car is real low. We consider ourselves seasoned, not senior. We have many miles on us, but that's because we drive more than most folks. We were eligible for The Washington Post's recent buyout offer. We didn't take it because we'd rather have a Buick. Please hold the jokes about Buicks and slow drivers. We've heard them. We aren't laughing. We -- I and my associate, Ria Manglapus -- can tell you from experience that you can speed your way to jail in a Buick Lucerne Super just as quickly as you can in any other luxury sedan.
The engine is new, albeit the same displacement as before, but now with a double overhead cam in place of the '06's single, and updated electronics. Horsepower is up by 32, torque by 16 pound-feet of torque (22 and 12, respectively, in states with California emission rules). A Continuously Variable Transmission replaces the '06's automatic, with a five-speed manual still the standard gearbox.
The 2008 Mitsubishi Lancer has gained weight over the '06, between 200 and 400 pounds, depending on model and trim. If you're willing to spend a little more, there are V-8-powered models like the Audi S4 Cabriolet and Chevrolet Corvette.

As with all automatic transmission Sport modes, fuel economy is sure to suffer.
